LiFi solutions for aeronautical applications

The potential of LiFi for various use cases in passenger inflight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC), for crew applications and for other aeronautical and mobility situations is presented. Opportunities, challenges and benefits are discussed along with some recent R&D achievements and prototypes.

The drive of Markus Werner is based on bringing LiFi to life – for various relevant areas in our society. He believes that renewable energy technologies and all contributing elements – in the short run are a must to massively build up the available, in the long run unfolding the real economic and sustainable potential for the world.

About Markus Werner
Markus received the Dipl.-Ing. degree from Darmstadt Technical University in 1991, and the Ph.D. degree from Munich Technical University in 2002. After a research career at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), he co-founded TriaGnoSys in 2002, which is now a Safran company. After nearly 20 years in satellite and wireless communications for aeronautical applications, and based on some deep technology scouting, he co-founded aeroLiFi in 2018 with the ambition to bring LiFi to the aircraft cabin. Meanwhile, the ambitions and target segments of aeroLiFi have been extended to further business, industrial, security and consumer applications.

About aeroLiFi GmbH
aeroLiFi was founded in 2018 with the ambition to bring innovative light-based communication solutions (LiFi) to various market segments, originally starting from aeronautical applications / inflight entertainment (hence the name). Broadband capacity, inherent security and complementarity of the technology with wireless radio solutions like 5G and beyond are key to all LiFi solutions of the company. The company works across hardware, firmware and software design, development and integration towards user prototype and commercial deployments.

Markus Werner, aeroLiFi is speaker at the 2023 edition of the LiFi Conference.
