Light Fidelity (LiFi) & Blockchain

This presentation aims to explore the potential synergies between LiFi (Light Fidelity), blockchain technology, and the Internet of Things (IoT) and their implications for community building. LiFi, a wireless communication technology that utilizes visible light to transmit data, offers high-speed connectivity, enhanced security, and reduced latency. Blockchain technology, on the other hand, provides decentralized and transparent data storage and verification, ensuring trust and immutability.

The Role of LiFi in 6G

We will review the current trends in 6G. In this context will showcase the opportunities for optical wireless communications in general and LiFi in particular. We will provide examples of ongoing activities as part of the new 6G research platform in the UK: PlaTform DrIving The UltimAte CoNnectivity (TITAN) on the future network of networks (NoN). TITAN is a consortium of 16 universities in the UK.

High Bandwidth LiFi Connections with high efficiency data transfers

A unique compound semiconductor structure using VCSELA (vertical cavity surface emitting laser arrays) offers record performance for speed, optical power and low SWaPC. The chip produces low coherent light in a single channel <1mm with ~0.5W and clocked at 25Gbps. The wavelength non coherence has scintillation mitigation properties enabling it to travel farther through the atmosphere. The chip can be produced in high volumes for a low fabrication cost.

Eyes of Tomorrow: Zero-power 3D Passive Imaging via LiFi / VLC infrastructure

Time-of-Flight (ToF) is a rapidly growing field that seeks to improve the capabilities of computer vision applications by emitting photons and reconstructing the scene from the reflected photons. The aim of this work is to revolutionize the field of 3D imaging by introducing a novel approach: passive 3D ToF imaging via Light Fidelity (LiFi) or Visible Light Communication (VLC) technology. State-of-art ToF sensing suffers from high power consumption and thermal drifts caused by built-in illumination sources. Additionally, the background light is treated as a disturbance, unlike in passive imaging modalities.

LINCNET: Exploring the Synergy of LiFi and Powerline Communication for Industrial and Medical Applications

The LINCNET project aims to advance LiFi (Light Fidelity) technology as a viable alternative for industry-specific applications. By harnessing the unlicensed optical spectrum, LiFi offers higher data rates in confined areas, particularly in buildings, and has the potential to provide increased security and reliability. The inherent properties of light as a wireless medium present numerous advantages for digital healthcare and industrial communication applications. Despite the demonstrated high potential of LiFi in these areas, cost-effective, integrated, and market-ready solutions are still lacking.
