LINCNET: Exploring the Synergy of LiFi and Powerline Communication for Industrial and Medical Applications

The LINCNET project aims to advance LiFi (Light Fidelity) technology as a viable alternative for industry-specific applications. By harnessing the unlicensed optical spectrum, LiFi offers higher data rates in confined areas, particularly in buildings, and has the potential to provide increased security and reliability. The inherent properties of light as a wireless medium present numerous advantages for digital healthcare and industrial communication applications. Despite the demonstrated high potential of LiFi in these areas, cost-effective, integrated, and market-ready solutions are still lacking.

The LINCNET project proposes the integration of Powerline Communication (PLC) as a backbone for LiFi, leveraging existing electrical infrastructure to significantly reduce installation costs. This integrated infrastructure aims to efficiently and economically meet industry-specific requirements. In this presentation, we will discuss the LINCNET project’s objectives and its approach to developing a system concept for the integration of LiFi with PLC. We will highlight the project’s focus on addressing the challenges faced in radiation-sensitive environments, such as manufacturing facilities and adjacent operating rooms, as well as the suitability of the protocols for industrial communication. By sharing the progress and insights gained from the LINCNET project, we hope to contribute to the advancement of LiFi technology and its adoption in healthcare and industrial settings.
